Bush Guru’s Deep Toughts

Run and Panic
Bush Guru has been tempted on a number of occasions to embrace the most noble of traditions of running away when charged by large beasties with sharp teeth and tusks. Bush Guru was recently asked why turning and running was a bad idea in the bush. Well, as he has been at pains to point out on numerous occasions, it’s ultimately fruitless. Animals are very good at detecting fear (especially if you are sprinting in the other direction screaming expletives), and most of them are faster than us. So before you come on safari think about this: Usain Bolt is deemed the fastest sprinter in the world…at a whopping 28mph. Lions can run at 50mph, cheetahs at 70mph and buffalos at 45mph. Even hippos can make up to 30mph. Just imagine what they could do with a decent training regime, a set of spikes and a big shoe deal….
